I felt boring these days, so I decided watch some movies.  The first movie I watched is called Taken.  What is the right relationship between the father and the daughter? There is no certain answer. But the love of Brain's to his daughter must be one of the best ones.  His daughter, a young pretty 17-year-old girl was kidnapped during a tour in Paris. Brain got the news and hurried to France to take his daughter. He found that the gangsters that kidnapped his daughter were connected with an old friend which made him exetreme angry. He finally found the place where was holding an auction selling young virgins and broke in successfully taking his daughter away.  No matter how hard and stressful the situation was, and how dangerous things he faced, he never went back just because of the greatest love of a simple father. In the movie, we are all moved not only his actions of kindness, but also his insistance and the greatest of all- a father's love

Tomorrow, my friend, Chris (not Chris), will celebrate his 20th years old birthday.  Chris is a student who is studying in EAP 140 PM.  Today I went to rocky mountain chocolate factory and bought some chocolate as birthday gift.  I tasted some chocolate in rocky mountain chocolate factory, it is really good.  At first, I love chocolate very much and I like tasting chocolate; therefore, I am always failed to be addicted by chocolate.  Secondly, the chocolate in rocky mountain chocolate factory is very delicious.  The most popular one is apple chocolate.  There are a number of chocolate people can choose such as Apple Pie, M&M Apple, Pecan Apple, Caramel Apple, Cheesecake Apple, English Toffee Apple, Peanut Apple, Pecan Bear Apple, Rocky Road Apple,Snickers Apple.  The price arrange is from 4.99 to 8.99.  I cannot say it is cheap but the price is reasonable.

What is honesty? Honesty means speaking the truth and being fair and upright in act.  Considered a virtue,it is admired in every country and every culture.So,Is it necessary to be honest all the time.  However,there are people who try to get benefits by dishonest means.  For example,today I saw some students copy the exercises done by others. The same thing may be said of a merchant who tries to get rich by deceiving customers. Those people may succeed for a time,but sooner or later,they will be caught.  How can cheating on exams be prevented? The measures may vary from case to case.But I think,the students must first be well informed of the negative effect on the learning atmosphere of the university and the students'character. Then the students who were caught in the act of cheating can be criticized publicly, punished or even expelled from the university.

Today I think a lot of students will write something about the grammar,but for me,I think the most benefit things are some skills to read.In the past,I always spent a lot of time on reading and still couldn't get high scores and now I realized that the problem is that I usually liked to understand each single words.It is completely unnecessary if I want to save time and just get the correct answers.First I should look through the  whole essay and try to find out the main things that the writer try to tell us,after I get this,I should go to see the questions immediately and try to finish some easy questions.Then read the questions again with patience,during this time I can go back and try to find the answer in the article.This way really helped me a lot in today's reading.I think I need to get used to this way recently so that my speed for reading will be faster and faster,however,A abundant vocabulary is the first step.

Travel is a very good means of broadening a person's perspective. It makes you come into contact with different cultures， meet people of different colors. Travelling much， you will not only enrich your knowledge and experiences， but also be aware of the Magic of nature.  Travel may also relieve person of boredom. Travel brings you enjoyment and attraction. It gives you a pleasant experience， which will disperse your boredom and make you forget whatever annoys you. Travel broadens your mind and leaves you good memories. Later， you may go over these memories and enjoy your past experiences.  which transportation would you like to choose?   Airplanes are the fastest but also the most expensive. Most people can afford traveling by bicycle, which, although slow, can limber up your muscles and get you closer to nature.  I love traveling. unfortunately, my wisdom tooth are growing these day; therefore, I got a swollen gums, and I do not wanna speak and eat.  I always think the pain which is from mouth is most painful.  Because of my tooth, I lose my enthusiasm to do everything, and I have a lot of homework to do.  In Canada, it is very important that to have a treat with a dentist.  If you only want to wash your teeth, you may will be charged for 200 dollars around.  If I want to extract my teeth, the price is more higher.  As a result, I choose to bear the pain.  Yesterday and today, I cannot eat food well even just open my mouth. Now, I am really
crazy about this and really can not stand it.

EAP 145 - HU, Weili - Week 6 2/3

When I first saw this movie called Forrest Gump, I didn't appreciate it like I do now. Because I was so young that I didn't get the main idea when I first saw it. Just recently I saw the movie again, and I feel like that this movie teaches me so much about life and the meaning of it. That life isn't as bad as most people feel. Forrest Gump, the innocent man can impact so many lives with his innocence. The meaning of the movie to me is that everyone needs to have a better outlook on life. That we need to appreciate more of the little things and not let the big things hold us back. Although life may throw us trials and tribulations like a box of chocolates, we just have to bite into it and get through it even if we don't like it. I just love this movie. It is truly amazing for me.

EAP 145 - HU, Weili - Week 6 1/3

Now, EAP 145 is past half, and I want to say somethings here.  For listening, I think there are some vocabularies that I do not know so that I cannot spell them while I am listening.  I need to memory more vocabularies to improve my listening and taking notes skills.  For reading, I assert I should accelerate the speed of reading because I always feel that the time is not enough.  What is more, I need to find answers more quickly and correctly.  For speaking, I need to practice my pronunciation more.  Then, writing, the most important part, I have some difficulties.  In writing, every student should get 35 points out of 50.  I think it is a challenge.  To get 35 in writing, a good thesis statement, clear position, and strong citation are needed.  For me, I need to practice more.

Today, I finished my presentation.  My topic of presentation is "Is plastic surgery superficial?".  To be honest, it is difficult to brainstorm some ideas at the beginning because I believe that plastic surgery is superficial.  And superficial is not the same as good or not good question.  For superficial question, students should not just give some advantages or disadvantages of plastic surgery.  I search a number of information online, and I find that it is more easier to illustrate that plastic surgery is not superficial because I can find more ideas.  In my presentation, there are three main points that I have demonstrated such as plastic surgery can prevent and cure some diseases, change people's future, and give the same change that people to compete.

EAP 145 - HU, Weili - Week 5 2/3

Two days ago, I went to my best friend's birthday party, and that experience for me is unforgettable. At the beginning, some of his friends decided to make a surprise for my best friend; therefore, we started to make our special gift.  It was a horrible moppet with a sound recorder inside. We had made some weird voices before we put it in, and after that, the moppet was dressed up and covered by a old box.  All in all, we just wanted to scared him.  When the night was coming, we gave this box to him, and told him the mystery of that gift.  He was a little bit threaten by us, and after he listened the sound of that moppet, he shouted like a child.  We couldn't believe that he was truly frightened by us, and that made us laugh at him for the whole day; however, we added some wishes for him at the end of that voices.  He was finally moved by us.  After that day, I realized the importance of our friendship, and I will value it in the future.

EAP 145 - HU, Weili - Week 5 1/3

This week is week 5, which means I finish half of EAP 145.  In EAP 145, I think the most difficult thing is to get 35 in essay.  In EAP 145, the style of our essay is agree or disagree.  In terms of agree or disagree essay, students should give good thesis statement, and position.  Position means what is your opinion, students should give their own idea.  For example, if the topic is "Are cellphones dangerous?", in the first paragraph, students should give their own point clearly.  What is more, EAP 145 more concentrate on APA style.  In the past, if students want to use citation, they just need to say "Author's name (year) states" while students need to write "Author's name (year) stated".  In EAP 140, students only just use 2~3 different APA style such as website,pdf,and journal while in EAP 145, there are a number of style that students should learn.

Today, we had a presentation in our classes, and class had an excited discussions.  For today presentation's topic, I assert two of them is not good.  For instance, Is drinking milk good for you?  For this topic, I think the answer is obvious.  Drinking milk is good for human body because milk can provide protein which can strength human bone and teeth.  It is very difficult to say a food is good or not because different people have different choice.  People have right to choose what kind of food they should eat or not.  Except drinking milk, another topic is also not very good such as Are fast food companies bad?  It is no doubt that fast food companies bring convenience to human life and provide cheaper food for costumers even if fast food is not healthy enough.  It is useless to talk about fast food companies are good or bad because they just provide food.  The right of choosing what to eat is owned by consumers.

Last Saturday, I went to the Chinese night market which located in Richmond. I heard from many of my friends that this night market is one of the best event during Vancouver's summer, and that makes me quite interested to join this activity.  As soon as I went there, I was deeply affected by the surrounding atmosphere. Plenty of the goods and customers make the night market lively, and people couldn't avoid the noises from anywhere. I didn't spend too much time on shopping because they were actually too expensive for me;however, I couldn't miss the attractive snacks because of their savory smells.  I used all my money on tasting different kinds of food, and that makes me feel satisfactory.  At the end of that day, I met one of my Japanese friend. She told me she loves that night market and after chatting a while, we agreed on going the night market together next time.

EAP 145 - HU, Weili - Week 4 1/3

Yesterday, I went to karaoke and had a dinner with my EAP 145 classmates.  In Friday, after we finished our class, Miss Cindy suggested that students should go to karaoke together.  I hesitated for few mustiness because I wanted go back home and had a sleep.  Finally, I decided to go to the karaoke.  Then, we took skytrain to Metrotown and 106 bus to K-mix karaoke.  Me, zhaobo, cindy, max, chiyu, and my friend who is a student in EAP 140. We sang a lot of different language songs like Chinese, English, Japanese  and Korean songs.  In our group, the best singer is Max.(So ask him to sing a song in class)  After singing karaoke, we went to mongolian hot pot which is in metrotown.  Our 13 people sit together and ate hot pot together.  We talked about interesting things what happen around us.  I assert that we not only can entertain, but also strength our relationship.  It is really fun.  Finally, we went to home around 10:30 P.M., and everyone thought it is wonderful.

Today, I went to Granville Island because my friends ask me to Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and it is my first time to granville island.  Firstly, we took no.50 bus and got off at granville island.  When we got off the car, I saw a big bridge (OK, not very big) connect with granville island and Vancouver land.  I try my best to look through all landscape here.  I found there are a number of houseboats in granville island.  Many shops sell various souvenirs to visitors.  Then, we found Emily Carr university of Art + Design, and it really surprised me.  I really cannot believe this university just only 2 teaching buildings.  However, the appearance of these teaching building is really artistic.

Today, I finished my first practice test in EAP 145, and I want to talk about something.  This time, the topic of our practice is meat diet or vegetarian diet.  In the present, increasingly people are like to have a vegetarian diet because they think keep eating vegetables can help them keep health.  For my opinion, eat more vegetables really can help people to keep health and reduce the rate of getting cancer; however, vegetables cannot replace meat completely.  In terms of meat, there are some nutrition that vegetables cannot provide.  What is more, in Chinese culture, people should keep a balance in their body, which means they cannot only eat vegetables only. For this test, I finished my essay in time, and I assert that time for reading is enough.  For listening, I think it is not very difficult but the speed is too fast.

Today, I went to the movies with chiyu, max, zhaobo, and cindy, and we watched the movie called "after earth".  The movie talks about human beings destroyed earth, and they have to move to another plant.  1000 years later, a boy called Kitai Raige and his father Cypher Raige land on the earth because an accident.  Raige and his father survived, and Cypher Raige's leg has broken.  Therefore, a boy needs to find the ruins of their plant, and send signals.  However, there are a number of unknown animals which have evolved and weather which changes frequently.  A boy fights with chimpanzees, tigers, and alien which is from other planet.  And 1000 years later, the earth's atmosphere has changed a lot, and every 10 hours, the temperature of earth will decrease to subzero.  Facing of these difficulties, boy sends signal to home and come back with father.

Today, I do a presentation in our class.  Our topic is "Do Computer and Video Games effect people?".  After out presentation, students have a interesting debate.  In our presentation, our points are computer and video not only effect people, but also bring some positive and negative effects on people's life.  I introduce some positive effects of computer and video games.  For example, first, playing games will practice people's ability.  In most of games, people need to make a choice quickly so that they can get higher scores.  Therefore, playing computer and video can practice people's speed of reaction.   Then, some games force people to learn how to teamwork and get along with others.  For instance, world of warcraft, people need to cooperate and to achieve every level.  Finally, I talk about playing computers and video games can resale some pressures.

EAP 145 - HU, Weili - Week 2 2/3

When I went to EAP 145, I found I have some troubles on how to use about subordinate word groups;  therefore, I review the bedford.Although subordinate clauses are patterned like sentences, and they function sentences as adjectives, adverbs or complements, they can still not stand alone as complete sentences.  People always use subordinate clauses to describe something that is hard to explain in a simple word.  For example, the homework that I just finished is quiet difficult for my brother.  In this sentence, the subordinate that I just finished is used to describe the subject homework.  This kind of subordinate clauses functions as adjectives; therefore, we also call it adjective clauses.  Moreover, the other two types of subordinate clauses are called adverb clauses and noun clauses, and they function as adverbs and nouns.  Getting used to recognize them in a sentence can make us much easier to use them correctly.

In today's class, I learned and reviewed how to write a logical essay in English.    To start with, an introduction.  In introduction, there are two things need to be included such as general statement and thesis statement.  In thesis statement, students should have their own opinion and states it clearly.  In the first body paragraph, people need to introduce their main point in the first sentence and give some explain.  In a body paragraphs, students are asked to write at least 2 ~ 3 supports to sustain their points.  For every support, at least 1 citation or quotation is needed. Rely on good citation or quotation, the point will be more powerful and convincing.

Today, I reviewed APA.  APA is American Psychological association, and there are two reasons that people need to use APA system such as to tell reader where the information comes from and to give credit to the writers.  In APA, people should find author first.  People should put author's last name at the beginning and initial of their first name.  For example, the author's name is Weili Hu.  In APA, it should be Hu, W. L..  Then, parentheses with time of publishing.  For instance, if the publish time is 22th October, 1994.  In APA, it should be (1994, October 22).  Then, students should put the article's title.  The following one is website's name and it need italic.  Finally, the link of that website is needed. For example of APA, if the author's name is Weili Hu, the publish date is 2013/03/21, the title of article is Sheep, the website name is League of Legends, and the link of website is http://na.leagueoflegends.com.  So, the APA should be Hu, W.L. (2013, March 21). Sheep.  League of Legends.  Retrieved from http://na.leagueoflegends.com.

EAP 145 - HU, Weili - Week 1 2/3

Today, we are talking about essay in class.  In EAP 140, there are two different type of essay that students need to write such as compare and contrast as well as cause and effect.  In terms of EAP 145, students are allowed to write argumentative essay.  There is an simple structure of argumentative essay, for example, introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion.  In introduction, a general statement and a thesis statement are needed.  General statement will give some background and thesis statement will provide main idea of essay.  In body paragraph, the structure should be topic sentence, supporting sentences, details/analysis, and conclusion.  The function of topic sentence is giving main idea of this paragraph at the beginning, and idea will be warped by concluding sentence.  Finally, students should write a conclusion to summary.  Before writing, an outline is needed.  For outline, students are going to write a working outline so that they can change it anytime.

EAP 145 - HU, Weili - Week 1 1/3

Today, I start my EAP 145 which is nine weeks journey.  I met my new teacher and classmates this morning.  At the beginning of EAP 145, I recognize that the differences between EAP 140 and EAP 145. At first, in EAP 145, there are more writing assignments that students need to do and students are going to try harder in their writing.  I obtained a number of assignments such as independent study assignments.  Secondly, the same as EAP 140, students are asked to write blogs every week; however, students are able to write anything what they want.  Besides of these, it is very important to practice ability of summary in 145 because students need to understand the main ideas of articles rapidly in university.  There are five effective ways to summary an article perfectly.  The first, divide the article into sections. Then, read carefully and make some notes.  After that, write the main ideas down through using own words.  Finally, go through again.
